Listen to Eric, CEO and Chief Investment Officer, tell how Spider Rock uses Options strategies to reduce risk and solve other problems with portfolio construction.  Plain vanilla equities and fixed income strategies cannot do what Options can do.  Working with institutions, family offices and Advisors, they construct portfolios around risk mitigation and yield augmentation, and even much more sophisticated strategies. He discusses how to get paid while waiting for a market pullback and how to derisk a portfolio without being exposed to capital gains.  Not knowing Options today is a definite handicap to any investor and this interview deserves a listen by all investors.  

KraneShares is a family of ETF's, all focused on China.  Brendan, the Chief Investment Officer, tells about the restructuring of the MSCI Emerging Market Index, to include mainland Chinese securities.  Index based ETF's, as passive investments, invest in those companies that are included in these indexes.  This means that those who invest in this index will now include those securities from Chinese exchanges, resulting in additional shares to be purchased of these companies.  This is somewhat historic, and could generate some significant changes in the value of these securities that will now be included in the index.  Very interesting interview for any investor.

John discusses the background of Petvivo's new product used in the treatment of osteo arthritis for dogs and horses.  Unique in that it focuses on the cause, not just the relief of the pain and symptoms, this product will be offered thru Veterinarians.  He relates examples and stories of race horses that were greatly improved by the product.

In his third start up, John tells the story of Purify Fuel, which is a nano technology based clean diesel fuel additive that reduces fuel usage and emissions.  Selling to the largest of diesel fuel consumers - US Govt, Railroads, etc.  Raising working capital to bring this product to market.

Focused on Clerisy, an alternative method to take/ingest medications, George discusses this new method/technology.  They have produced a nose clip that contains the medication and thru breathing it releases the medication directly to the brain, providing a number of benefits to the person.  Created by neurologists, this method is now FDA approved, and Clerisy is raising funds to bring this product to market.

Archangels is composed of members of family offices, angel and other investors who have joined together to view and evaluate capital raising efforts by smaller companies seeking private equity type capital.  Doug discusses the key elements that their group has learned to be the most important and telling in evaluating investment opportunities.  He addresses the need for evaluating the deal structure, as opposed to the company management or the solution that is being proposed.

Conducted at the AltsLA Conference in March, here is a brief interview with Bill Kelly re: Alternative investments, the industry and the role of CAIA.  Bill was a speaker and panel moderator at the conference, and always has interesting insights to offer.

Ted learned the investmentment industry from John W. Henry, successful Commodities Trader who now owns the Boston Globe , Boston Red Sox, Liverpool Football Club, and other ventures.  In 2012 he formed Incline with his partner, and they created a unique strategy to combine equity investments together with Commodity Trading , and call it the Systematic Hybrid Investment Strategy.  You will enjoy this conversation about a unique way to invest in both of these markets.  He reveals a key trait of JWH that everyone in the investment world should remember.  Listen to this interview. 

Following stints at some of Wall Street's largest and most prestigious investment firms - Goldman Sachs, Bridgewater Capital and AQR Hedge Fund - Nate started CAM with his partner to focus on little followed, niche markets in the Commodities markets, i.e. nickel, zinc, lead, palladium, aluminum and other even lesser known commodities.  Able to be long or short, mostly in the Futures market, they use fundamental analysis and quantitative metrics, and do not pursue trend following, which is the more typical approach for commodities trading.  Investors today often seek a low-correlated investment for their portfolio, and many are turning to commodities for diversification from equity and fixed income markets.  Listen to this conversation to learn about this unique way to add diversification to a portfolio, and able to create profits in rising or declining markets.

David tells the story of CCM, an independent impact investment money management firm, speciallizing in fixed income (Bond investing), paying market rate returns, but they allow the investors to focus on particular geographical or impact themes in deploying their investment funds.  CCM started with banks and others covered by the Community Re:Investment Act in the 1990's, moving into the Foundations and other institutional investors, and now wealth management world and other private investors.  He discusses the themes and locales of some of their projects, as well as the goals and desires of the investors.  For many investors, it is very important to align their investments with their values, and David tells this story as well as anyone, providing specific examples of projects that listeners will find to be very interesting.

The Director of Investor Relations, Paul discusses BP's  L/S funds, especially the unique Emerging Markets L/S fund, part of their $100 Billion in Assets Under Management.  While L/S funds are fairly commong, few apply this strategy to international markets, especially Emerging Markets.  On a bottom up basis, they look for companies with rich valuations and potential catalysts to move the price, both on the long and short side.  They allow the market to determine the net exposure, with the short side usually between 30-70% of the Long side.  He also discusses the unique challenges and features of the opportunities in Emerging Markets.  An enlightening interview on a subject receiving much less attention than most in the financial markets.

As an early pioneer in Alternative Investments, Rick has had a focus on Alternative Investments for the 29 year life of their firm.  Having establish their Alternative Investments focused LASSO mutual fund twenty years ago, he is a frequent speaker in the industry and often a Co-Chair of conferences, and shares with us his views of the industry, current conditions of the financial markets, and other insights in this investment space.  Rick's experience in this segment of the financial world for several decades creates a rich background for him to hold forth on this important subject. 

As an insider in the world of Fixed Income securities management on Wall Street  prior to, during , and since the 2008 credit crisis, Mark has had a view of this epoch period as few others (as he tells us, he had dealings with each of the four parties whose stories are told in the book and movie "The Big Short).  He identifies what he sees as the major causes of the crisis, and shares insights and unique views that few can claim to have from that period.
